Audience Member A sleepy teen thriller that unsuccessfully meddles with non-linear Lynchian psychological tropes. Silverstone gives it some kind of eye candy factor. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting commentary on the male gaze, toxic masculinity, how alcohol fuels our baser instincts, how sex appeal and sexual prowess affect our sense of self worth. The film actively pushes the (male) viewer to participate in the same male gaze, putting Alicia Silverstone of full display, and then forces the viewer to analyze his own intentions. The film is simultaneously dated and well ahead of its time. Reminds me a lot of Promising Young Woman, but from the male perspective. I think this film would have been perceived totally differently and done much better had it been released in 2021 rather than 1995. This feels like the type of film I should be writing a college paper on. Worth watching, and worth analyzing and discussing. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Well, that was terrible. I guess it's about sex, lust, and failed relationships, but it's really so poorly put together, it's laughable. You've got a middle aged man, teenage boy, even a preadolescent boy lusting after the teen babysitter. There's fantasy rape and salascious sequences laced with the story that are just odd and disconcerting. I really have no idea what the director was going for, why this was made, or why Silverstone agreed to do the film. It was just an overall waste of money, time, and talent. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review jelisije j A movie that deals with a lot people hidden desires and how dangerous they can actually be. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie is mostly held together with fantasy scenes, and the majority of them are from the point-of-view of a male character. Disturbing since the fantasies include several scenes of rape and violence towards women. Ugh. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member the mid 90s had some very 2021 film no-no's and that's what makes it one of my favorite eras. The Babysitter is very underrated if one can look past it's insight as to how some ppl get really creep when it comes to pretty young things but if you can't that's okay there's nothing wrong w disliking this movie. however if you're into dark stuff like true crime then this is a strong recommendation.
