A surprising claim! ...BC

"Luxottica to produce prescription 3D glasses
To be tested with DreamWorks Animation Studios"

"According to the company, the glasses will work on all 3D films
and for 3D television programming, and can be made to carry the
same prescription lenses a user's regular glasses use."

Ludicrous! Anyone who knows anything about 3D imaging knows that this claim will never materialize. Anaglyph, polarized, shutter glasses or cross-eyed free view... but not all formats. This is just an attempt by an Italian company to increase the value of the company stock.

Maybe I'm just ranting... but really...

Dean, note they didn't say "all 3D presentations"... just all 3D films. If they make them circularly polarized, then arguably they work with "all 3D films", since all of the 3D films released now are showing in at least ONE Real-D theater.

They also selectively phrased 3D television programming, not saying "on all 3D films and television", but "on all 3D films and for 3D television programming", which basically means that if it works for some 3D televisions they are still telling the truth, although the statement itself sounds a lot more impressive than it really is.

I wouldn't get freaked out, Dean. It's just marketing talk. :-)

Okay, well now that I read it more carefully, it sounds like it may be feasible, but it's still rather misleading. It's not outrageous to infer that the new glasses will address all 3d formats... and will correct your nearsighted or farsighted vision as well.

I'm really not 'freaked out'... It's just that certain 'marketing talk' can be exposed as 'talking trash'. What once was called scamming is now referred to as marketing. I suppose that I'm still ranting a bit... sorry.

At the top of what Eric said, it is just a pressrelease. There are no specific details or prices.

What once was called scamming is now referred to as
marketing.

I guess. But I certainly wouldn't expect them to say "we're making 3D glasses for only 10% of the things you might want to use them for." :-)

Of course not... that would be bad marketing.

Dean Davis <deanryandavis@...> posted in part...

It's just that certain 'marketing talk' can be exposed as
'talking trash'.

What? Like my personal favorite?

"We guarantee to beat any competitor's price on carpeting, wood
floor or laminate OR IT'S FREE."

At least this particular company has taken to smugly admitting in
their TV commercials that they haven't given one away yet.
