It may be titled 'strengthening planning policy' but this reads like de-regulation to me? Why should brownfield development be held to different standards to greenfield? https://lnkd.in/eDUqvVsf

In a recent seed cleaning plant receiving system and storage upgrade, anCeres Processing Solutions Ltd. provided preliminary concept design and then assisted the owner with selection of a design-build contractor. Once the contractor was engaged, the owner requested we help them with permitting applications and other regulatory matters. We obtained the municipal development permit, roadside development permit, Historical Resources Act approval, and acted as the coordinating professional for the Alberta professional schedules on the project. Regulatory and permitting steps can sometimes have significant impacts on project schedule, so understanding your project's regulatory requirements is a critical early-stage planning activity. Changes in regulation, such as the National Building Code of Canada 2020's Group G occupancy, which doesn't exist in the Alberta Edition to be adopted next month, are an added wrinkle to manage. If you have questions, give me a call and we can talk about options and how best to approach the coordination of your regulatory requirements.

Come to the 2024 PMINZ conference in Feb! I'm speaking, and you'll get to hear me talking about the challenge we face in New Zealand with so many of our homes and so much of our infrastructure close to rising seas or within flood zones 🌊🏡 Should we build bigger walls, make our infrastructure 'floodable', or to move away from the hazard? Any of these will have require a huge mobilisation from the construction sector. Do we have the resources ready for that? 🏗🚧👷♂️👷♀️ And, who would pay? 💵 💷 💶 I don't have all (any of?) the answers, but I'll be speaking about what's happening in the rest of the world, and where we are currently in New Zealand. Project managers will be thoroughly part of whatever solution is decided upon, so it's an important topic to discuss. 🔶 As an added bonus, I can offer you at 10% discount. Just use the code *PMspeaker10* when you register 🔶 https://lnkd.in/euEwharv#pminz #pmi #PMconferenceNZ

Isle of Wight South Strategic Optimisation - Water asset design and operational performance optimisation to provide a long-term strategic solution.Forming part of Southern Water’s Hampshire supply region, the Isle of Wight is divided into two water distribution zones: North and South. The IoW South zone comprises major towns of Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor with multiple villages and more remote rural areas forming the wider distribution network. The water sources and distribution systems have been brought together, with their origins being from former smaller localised systems developed in the late 19th century, which were added to in the 20th century as the IoW population grew, to form an integrated system. Today, there are five existing small and medium sized water supply works with a combined daily output of 18 ML supplying customers via several small water service reservoirs. The water distribution network totals approximately 547 km of mains, serving a population of approximately 45,000 people. Cooks Castle Reservoir has been identified for replacement based on asset condition and the associated security of supply risks to customers. This project aims to provide a long term solution for storage requirements and enhance the network associated with the removal/replacement of this existing reservoir. To validate the need and determine the optimum size, top water level and location of any new reservoir, a solution needed to be developed considering a wider, integrated view of water sources, network storage and water distribution now and into the future. The Optimatics’ Optimizer tool was used, allowing the team to analyse up to 35,0000 plans (the group of assets the Optimizer chose to test) in a single optimisation run. Optimizer was allowed to generate plans incorporating both new asset options and removing or retaining existing assets. New options tested included a total of approximately 80km of strategic mains in varying diameters, over 20 reservoir configurations in five different locations, decommissioning of existing reservoirs and associated rezoning, rationalisation of reservoirs and provision of new pumping stations ...
