History
Origins
The Queen is one of the Twenty, abducted by Brainiac after the shrinking of the city. She was mutated into a powerful telepath devoted to Brainiac - to the point that she claims to be his daughter. When Brainiac retreated, he left the Twenty behind and expected them to die. Most survived, and the Queen made it her purpose to prepare the Earth for his return.[2] To the outside world, the Holistic Integration for Viral Equality was a social media company striving to bring the world together in unity, but secretly, they kidnapped people with psychic powers, hoping to use them to pave the way for Brainiac's invasion.
The New 52
Psi War
H.I.V.E. Queen eventually imprisoned Psycho-Pirate and several other psychics. She harvested the psionic energy from her victims to powerH.I.V.E.'s operation to mentally enslave the human race in preparation for Brainiac's return to Earth, but the Pirate eventually managed to escape and easily bested the Queen andHector Hammond, who were waging war againstSupermanand each other for control of Metropolis. When Psycho-Pirate was driving the citizen mad, he was ultimately thwarted by the combined powers of the Queen, Hammond, and a psionically-endowedLois Lane. The Queen was seemingly killed in the battle,[3] but later returned with new plots involving mind control.[4] During her assumed death, a new Queen took over H.I.V.E.[5]
Confronting Teen Titans
Queen Bee eventually takes control ofNew Orleans and mind-controlled citizen to build an satellite, that was actually psionic amplifiers that allow her to take over every mind across theUnited States of America, but the Teen Titans were in the city and manage to resist her mental influence.Red Robin later assault her base, defeating her and freeing the entiry city from her control.[6]
DC Rebirth
Queen Bee later set up a new H.I.V.E. headquarters in Gotham City, where she was confronted byRed Hood and the Outlaws over the millions of dollars that thePenguin owed her for services rendered. The vigilante used his taser to disable her henchmen and she was then knocked out byBizarro, being captured before she can read their mind.[7]
Eventually, Queen Bee also confronted Wonder Woman, using her powers to control the Amazons and some of Wonder Woman's enemies against her.[8]
Dawn of DC
Queen Bee eventually created the "Love Hive" with the mind-controlled Hank Hall, but she was defeated by Dove, Bumblebee and Flamebird, freeing Hank and the rest of her hostages from the Queen's control while she teleports away.[9]

- Queen Bee was created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky, first appearing in Justice League of America #23. In the Prime Earth continuity, the H.I.V.E. Queen first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in Superman (Volume 3) #21 by Scott Lobdell and Kenneth Rocafort.
- In her initial appearances in Superman (Volume 3) (2013), the Queen was one of twenty humans mutated by Brainiac.[2] She was called "H.I.V.E. Queen" in the storyline, though her entry in DC Comics Encyclopedia: All-New Edition (2016) lists her under "Queen Bee". A Queen Bee based on the original, Zazzala, appeared in Plastic Man (Volume 5) #4 (2018). These were explicitly stated to be distinct characters in DC Comics Encyclopedia: New Edition (2021). Later appearances conflate some elements of Zazzala into the first character. Wonder Woman makes an off-hand allusion to an alien homeworld in Sensational Wonder Woman #11 (2021) and Flamebird calls her Zazzala in DC's Legion of Bloom #1 (2023).
